patella
this is what the aftermath of a patella dislocation looks like. dislocated my right knee while hanging out for hanukkah, eating churros, standing on the lavetta terrace steps, on a beautiful december night in Echo Park.  maybe it’s a sign to slow down?  probably not.

as part of echo park patch’s 1-year anniversary, editor and time bank member Anthea Raymond bought a round of drinks and Alberto Tamales for everyone at local Echo Park favorite Bar 1642. A band of bikers then headed over to Echo Park Ave. & Sunset to visit the Salinas Churros Truck in honor of Hanukkah.  Yes, a truck, that sells fresh, hot, sweet churros.  Apparently,...

participatory figure drawing
i hosted a figure drawing class at Really Awesome Great Experiments.  But instead of spending lots of money on a professional nude model, we just all took turns drawing each other, clothed, and swapping public transportation stories, drinking mulled wine and hot toddies.

echo park community parade
Doug Tiano had an amazing idea for an Echo Park Time Bank & Bicycle Kitchen float for the annual Echo Park Holiday Community Parade. Recycled cardboard, painted on one side with cars, smog, traffic, general unpleasantry. The other side, painted with rivers, flowers, corn, flowers, clouds, happiness, love. We took over Sunset Blvd.  So great to have the roads to ourselves.

apricot saplings
decided to grow my own apricots, from seed.  and it involves a little more than just planting a pit into some soil.   first, you need to oh-so-gently break open the outside hard shell, to retrieve the actual apricot seed inside.  i used vice grips.  the inside seed looks like an almond. then, i soaked the seed in water for a couple of days, changing the water daily. i placed the seeds...

Roasted Chicken Dinner
I bought a whole chicken through Silver Lake Farms CSA.  The chicken was from New Frontier Family Farm out in Chino, and was sustainably and organically raised.  Having never cooked a whole chicken before, I thought this was a perfect piece of meat to start with.  I implored the help of the girls from the Manzanita house to help me out. Rachel collected some sage, thyme, and rosemary from her...
