Dodger Stadium

Something’s new at Dodger Stadium.  And it’s not just the change of ownership.  5 new “Extreme Loaded Dogs”:
(1) The Heater, a normal Dodger Dog topped with Buffalo wing sauce and blue cheese slaw;
(2) The Frito Pie Dog, topped with chili, cheese and Fritos;
(3) the Big Kid Dog, coated with Mac and Cheese & Fritos;
(4) the Doyer Dog, a vaguely racist-sounding variety with nacho cheese, jalapenos, tomatoes and onions;
(5) the Tailgate Dog, a hot dog under a pile of beans, BBQ sauce, and potato salad.

I got the Tailgate Dog.  And an order of Garlic Fries.  Along with the views, this is why I love Dodger Stadium.

Blossom _ Silver Lake

Visited Blossom’s new location in Sunset Junction, Silver Lake.  Not only does it have an upstairs portion with stripped down interiors, kitchen, and seating, but it also has an equally interesting space in the basement, which has more seating and a bar.  There are also terrariums fed by skylights from the sidewalk on Sunset Blvd above!

I had the egg-noodle dish Mi Trung Thit Kho: three chunks of braised pork belly and a seasoned boiled egg.

Clocks @ LACMA, Donuts @ ForYourArtLA

Biked down to LACMA with Kevin Biggers at 10:30pm in hopes of catching the  midnight passage of Christian Marclay’s 24 movie The Clock.  ”It is in effect a clock, but it is made of a 24-hour montage of thousands of time-related scenes from movies and some TV shows, meticulously edited to be shown in “real time”: each scene contains an indication of time (for instance, a timepiece, or a piece of dialogue) that is synchronized to show the actual time.”

Unfortunately, we didn’t arrive until 11:15pm, and by then, the line was all the way onto Wilshire Blvd.  We were still standing in line when midnight struck.  Within 5 minutes there was a large exodus of spectators.  So we stayed and caught the passing of 1am.  Needless, we got a lot of scenes from horror movies, bedside nightstand clocks, late night phone calls, etc.  What a treat.  I was in a trance watching the movie.  I highly recommend it to all those who are as deficient of attention as I am.

Around 1:15am, Kevin, Avishay, Marya, Tommy and I walked over to ForYourArt’s new LA gallery space for Around the Clock: 24 Hour Donut City, “a 24-hour pop up donut shop, giving away donuts from LA’s best known donut shops.  Donut and Clock: two round but seemingly unrelated objects that will be synchronized for this 24-hour event.”

They quickly ran out.  I only ate half a donut.

echo park patch anniversary + hanukkah

as part of echo park patch’s 1-year anniversary, editor and time bank member Anthea Raymond bought a round of drinks and Alberto Tamales for everyone at local Echo Park favorite Bar 1642.

A band of bikers then headed over to Echo Park Ave. & Sunset to visit the Salinas Churros Truck in honor of Hanukkah.  Yes, a truck, that sells fresh, hot, sweet churros.  Apparently, you’re suppose to eat deep fried things to celebrate.  And in a timely manner, we also ran into Tannaz and her band of jewish friends.

After buying out the remaining inventory of the truck’s churros supply, we headed to the Laveta Terrace Steps where more merriment (and cribbage) ensued.  Happy Hanukkah!

Roasted Chicken Dinner

I bought a whole chicken through Silver Lake Farms CSA.  The chicken was from New Frontier Family Farm out in Chino, and was sustainably and organically raised.  Having never cooked a whole chicken before, I thought this was a perfect piece of meat to start with.  I implored the help of the girls from the Manzanita house to help me out.

Rachel collected some sage, thyme, and rosemary from her yard.  With the herbs, onions, lemons, and garlic, we stuffed the chicken and roasted it.

Amy carved up the chicken.  I got the wishbone.

Arugula Beet Salad, Roasted Potatoes, and Graham on the side.
