pasadena -> eagle rock -> downtown la

Took a nice ride from Pasadena to Eagle Rock, taking the Colorado Street Bridge, which overlooks the Arroyo Seco Freeway Bridge.

Seafood City in the Eagle Rock Plaza Shopping Center.  So many aunties.

Cooked up some philipino longganisa sausages at Ashley and Co.’s Castle Crag.

Headed down to street for the Eagle Rock Music Festival.

Free tacos and dancing at Rantz Auto Center.  Best stage of the night.

Biked and met up with Avishay and Zoe in Echo Park’s El Prado.  We took a drive Downtown to check out how Occupy LA was going.

Over to the LA State Historic for Burning Man Decompression.  We couldn’t get in.

So we headed to the Pantry Cafe for some breakfast food and the best sourdough grilled bread in the city.  Too bad it was also 2pm, so we were the only sober ones in the establishment.  Apparently, adjacent LA Live has a lot of clubs now.  So we were blessed with neighboring conversations about the various methods of stabbing people.  Great atmosphere.

Overall, a nice 11 mile day, filled with hipsters, hippies, and ravers.  Los Angeles.

drunk run club II

Eagle Rock Edition.  On a hot hot day.  With Abel, Donald, Joyce, Adria, and Judson.  We started at the York on York.  As you can tell from these 10 feet tall chalkboard menus, its a fancy place.  I ordered some grilled bread - which was toast & butter.  Though i’m not complaining; it was the best toast i’ve had in a while.

After a couple of beers, took a quick jog up York to Eagle Rock Blvd, and All Star Lanes for some afternoon bowling.

Though the bar was not open yet, the restaurant gladly served us pitchers of Shock Top.  Yes, the Chinese restaurant.  Inside the Bowling Alley.

Judson won!

We then headed back to York Blvd, where Johnny’s Bar was finally opening up for the day.  We kicked it with some locals for a bit.  Good ol dive feel.  You most likely would not find the same crowd at the York, though they are a few doors down from each other.

After a few beers, Donald and I saddled up while the rest of the crew drove (soberly), and headed back to Eagle Rock Blvd, towards San Fernando Road, to the Eagle Rock Brewery.  It was surprisingly packed, which is hard to tell from the outside since it’s on a small street.  Great beer brewed on site, and great Costco, mass produced pretzels.

All-in-all, 4.8 miles.  4 bars/breweries/bowling alleys.

pizza party

Inspired by red filipino longinisa sweet sausages, Ashley Atkinson and I decided to have an experimental pizza party at her place in Eagle Rock.  On the list:

- Kimchee Pizza

- Longinisa Pizza

- Beet and Goat Cheese Pizza

- Olive and Sweet Peppers Pizza

Albino Mexican Axolotl

We found out that Jessica had worked at a pizza store growing up.  So we let her take care of the dough.  They actually don’t toss it up in the air like in those commercials.  Who knew?!

John Steinbeck lived here for a bit next door.

The cat jumped on the Kimchee Pizza.
